We can’t even talk about her without the biggest smiles on our faces.
Quite possibly the most hilarious little dog on the planet.
Even if small dogs aren’t your thing, you cannot help but fall in love with her.
It’s a miracle that she’s so sociable and jolly, we can only imagine the conditions and environment that she lived in during her previous life.
Little Pru was found as a stray in an awful state, she was then cared for by another council (not Herefordshire) where she began her journey to recovery.
Pru was underweight, had fleas & long overgrown claws, her nose was breaking off in chunks, she was treated for suspected mange and an eye infection as well as suffering from other health concerns, whilst in the pound she received regular Malaseb baths to help with her awful skin.
Sadly it’s clear that she had also been bred from many times. When we received photos of her in such a sorry state, we simply couldn’t stop thinking about her and so offered her a safe space with us here at HWAR.
We were so pleased when we first met little Pru 1 week later as she looked so much better than she did in the initial photos that we received, the dog wardens and extended team had done a wonderful job in caring for her. 💗
So here we are, a few weeks on and we are absolutely thrilled with her continued progress.
Unfortunately she does have multiple health issues, including dry eye which will need eye ointment for the rest of her life, she has an inguinal hernia and will need general ongoing preventative skin care to ensure she remains healthy and of course the obvious breathing difficulties that frustratingly seem to come as standard with French bulldogs now!
Prudence may be absolutely adorable but heartbreakingly she was likely bred just to make money, the ‘big rope’ on her nose appearently makes French bulldogs for more desirable and seemingly more valuable.
In reality, Pru is just one of many victims of ridiculous overbreeding, prone to breathing issues and further health concerns associated with these exaggerated facial and body skin folds.
Anyhow, onwards and upwards..we are so happy to share that after a few weeks with HWAR Prudence has gained weight and has now landed on her 4 beautiful little paws and loving life living within her fantastic foster family where she will be staying until she’s ready to fly the nest and head off her forever family.

Prudence truly is one of those dogs that steals your heart from the second you meet her, her unapologetically quirky character shines so brightly.
We promise to make sure that she is cherished for the rest of her life, we cannot change her past but we will do everything we can to ensure she has the happiest and safest future.
